Components |
JANET consists of two main components: an arm and a glove. The glove contains gyroscopic and flex sensors whose measurements are transmitted to the arm by an XBee. The arm's frame is made of 2mm thick aluminum and is actuated by 7 servo motors connected to an Arduino. Through the servo motors, JANET's arm can mimic a shoulder's 2 degrees of freedom, an elbow's flexing, a wrist's rotation, and a hand's pinching.

Specifications |
JANET's arm weighs 1.4 lb and can extend 17 inches. It is powered by 8 1.5V batteries and can lift 150g when fully extended. With a footprint only 5 inches wide, JANET's arm can be mounted easily on mobile platforms such as rovers and RC cars.
